Services

Our yacht survey services can be structured to your individual requirements, with detailed reports that can assist you in making informed decisions that may save time, money and the safety of your vessel and crew.

Damage Assessment
Damage assessment is usually commissioned by insurers / underwriters to assess the extent of damage arising from an alleged incident and subsequent claim.

We currently supply damage assessment services and loss adjustment for a number of leading marine insurers and underwriters.

Damage assessment services are also provided to vessel owners, independently of an insurance claim.

The Valuation Inspection
A limited inspection provided to identify a vessel and its general condition, sufficient to determine a fair market valuation for finance, probate and customs.

Please note: this type of inspection is not a substitute for an insurance survey, where a full condition survey is now required by most leading insurers and underwriters

Consultancy Services
Our specialist consultancy service covers a wide range of disciplines based on our industry experience.  It can start with a straightforward condition survey and cover new-build project management or refit/repair supervision, system installations, materials and construction.

We can undertake research and liaise with specialist consultants.  We provide at all times impartial and professional advice.

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
Visual, acoustic, electromagnetic and radiographic processes can be utilised to locate potentially defective parts of a vessels structure or fittings to avoid unnecessary damage to sound parts.

Non-destructive testing may be recommended were the existence of subsurface defects are suspected, the extent of which requires quantifying prior to any destructive inspection and repair.

  • Visual – visible spectrum, visible indicators (dye penetrant) and infrared spectrum -thermography (sensing of temperature variation in radiated heat from discontinuity within a  structure)

  • Acoustic – ultrasonic thickness testing and hammer-percussion sounding

  • Electromagnetic – moisture meters (resistance for timber & capacitance meters for FRP) and magnetic particle testing of ferrous metals

  • Radiographic – x-rays of fastenings and fittings

Ultrasonic thickness measurement of metal structures and the measurement and analysis of the wetness of FRP hulls are normally conducted in accordance with the relevant IIMS codes of practice.

Finite destructive testing and analysis of core samples can be provided under controlled laboratory conditions, for example – burn testing of fibreglass laminates to determine laminate schedules and resin/glass ratios.
